Georgetown, Texas – The Hendrix Warriors began their Southern Athletic Association (SAA) conference play on Saturday afternoon but struggled against Southwestern University, falling 23-7 to the Pirates. This marked the first-ever matchup between these two programs as conference opponents.
Pirates Dominate Early, Hendrix Fights Back
Southwestern came out strong, scoring seven unanswered goals in the first 10 minutes of play before Joseph Davis put Hendrix on the board with his first career goal, assisted by Zachary Cox. Just a minute later, Nick Quarles added another goal, cutting the deficit to five.
However, the Pirates quickly regained control, scoring five straight goals to push their lead to 12-2. Quarles managed to score again midway through the second quarter, but Southwestern maintained their dominance, taking a 15-3 advantage into halftime.
Quarles Leads Hendrix With Five Goals
In the second half, Klaus Rowan opened his account with a goal early in the third quarter, assisted by Quarles. Quarles continued his strong performance, scoring his third goal at the 8:34 mark of the third quarter.
He added two more goals in the fourth quarter, both assisted by Rowan, finishing the day with an impressive five-goal performance. Despite Quarles’ efforts, Hendrix was unable to close the gap as Southwestern controlled the pace until the final whistle.
Defensive Effort and Goalie Performances
Hendrix’s goalkeepers worked hard to limit Southwestern’s relentless attack:
- Ian Domeika made seven saves as the starting goalkeeper.
- Kellen Harger entered in relief during the final quarter, recording four saves.
- Michael DeCaro battled in the faceoff circle, going 10-for-27 on the day.
What’s Next for Hendrix?
The Warriors will look to bounce back as they continue their SAA schedule in the coming weeks. They’ll need to adjust defensively and build on the offensive momentum led by Nick Quarles and Klaus Rowan. Fans can follow Hendrix Lacrosse updates on their official social media channels.
Hendrix struggled to contain Southwestern’s offense in their SAA opener, but Nick Quarles’ five-goal performance was a bright spot in the game. With room for improvement, the Warriors will aim to regroup and strengthen their defense as they move forward in conference play.
