Missouri City – The Manvel Lady Mavericks and Iowa Colony Lady Pioneers secured wins in the first round of the UIL Girls’ Basketball Bi-District playoffs on Tuesday night, advancing to the area round.

Manvel Defeats Fort Bend Austin 55-45

The Manvel Lady Mavericks (27-8) dominated Fort Bend Austin with a 55-45 win at Hopson Field in the Class 6A Division 2 playoffs. They maintained control throughout the game, building a lead of up to 21 points.

  • Lynnden Smith led with 16 points.
  • Kyana LaCour scored 13 points.
  • Peyton Cooks added 10 points.
  • Akyla Fields chipped in 9 points.

Coach Jhared Marshall emphasized the team’s focus on starting strong and taking the game one quarter at a time. Manvel’s explosive first quarter gave them a 26-10 lead, with Smith scoring nine points and LaCour hitting two three-pointers. By halftime, Manvel extended their lead to 37-17.

Fort Bend Austin tried to close the gap in the fourth quarter, but Smith’s three-pointer and Cooks’ drive to the basket sealed the win.

Iowa Colony Cruises Past Port Arthur Memorial 60-37

At Deer Park High School, the Iowa Colony Lady Pioneers (21-13) easily defeated Port Arthur Memorial 60-37 in the Class 5A Division 2 playoffs.

Top scorers for Iowa Colony included:

  • Kenadie Francis with 13 points
  • Aaliyah Rogers with 11 points
  • Payton Watson with 8 points
  • Kailee Scipio with 7 points

The Lady Pioneers advanced to face Round Rock Rudder in the area round on Thursday.

Shadow Creek Falls to Hightower

The Shadow Creek Lady Sharks (23-13) ended their season with a 67-38 loss to Hightower in the Class 6A Bi-District playoffs on Monday.

Boys’ Playoff Updates

The Shadow Creek boys (28-2), ranked in the state, will begin their playoff journey next week, facing the loser of the Bush vs. Clements matchup in the Class 6A D2 Bi-District playoffs.

The Iowa Colony boys (23-11) secured a playoff spot after an exciting 66-64 win over Galveston Ball. Rodney Carter’s game-winning layup at the buzzer, assisted by Robert Greene and Bobby Johnson, sealed the victory. Greene scored 35 points, while Jaylen Brown added 11 points.

Iowa Colony will play Port Arthur Memorial in the Class 6A D2 Bi-District playoffs on February 18 at Goose Creek High School.

The Manvel and Iowa Colony girls’ teams have proven their strength with dominant playoff wins, while Shadow Creek’s girls’ team concluded their season. Both the Shadow Creek and Iowa Colony boys’ teams are preparing for their playoff battles, promising more thrilling basketball action ahead.
