Boys Soccer Team Defeats the Texans to Win District Opener

The Marble Falls High School boys soccer team made a strong statement in their District 26-4A opener, securing a dominant 5-0 victory over Wimberley on February 7. Led by a hat trick from junior Joaquin Aguilar and a rock-solid defensive performance, the Mustangs controlled the match from start to finish.

Mustangs Take Early Control

Marble Falls wasted no time asserting their dominance. Aguilar scored twice in the first half, while senior Esteban Dominguez added another goal, giving the Mustangs a commanding 3-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, senior Juan Hernandez Barajas, Jr. extended the lead with a goal at the 19:24 mark. Aguilar then completed his hat trick with 11:34 remaining, sealing an emphatic 5-0 win.

New head coach Ryan Craven emphasized the importance of starting district play with a strong performance.

“Winning the district opener is huge. Wimberley is historically a good program,” Craven said. “We talked about priding ourselves on defense for the rest of district. My goal is not to give up a goal.”

Team Effort and Defensive Strength

Craven praised his team’s collective effort, highlighting their defensive discipline.

“Whether they were a striker or whatever, I want them to defend all the way to the goalie. And everybody out there tonight did that.”

Senior Jordan Guzman played a crucial role at center midfield, balancing offensive distribution with defensive support. The Mustangs also rotated three goalkeepers—seniors Sebastian Martinez-Medina and Indalesio Lopez-Bolanos, along with junior Jett Marcum—who combined for the clean sheet.

“Sebastian got a couple of saves,” Craven said. “We have faith in all of them.”

Aguilar Shines in New Role

A key adjustment in the lineup saw Aguilar, traditionally a defender, moved up to a forward position. The change, suggested by assistant coach David Griffin, paid off as Aguilar’s speed and attacking instinct led to three goals.

“We have some weapons up top,” Craven said. “If somebody is having an off night, somebody else will step up.”

Next Matchup: Fredericksburg

The Mustangs will look to build on their momentum when they host Fredericksburg on Tuesday, February 11. The junior varsity match kicks off at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 7 p.m.

Coach Craven remains confident in his team’s ability to maintain their defensive focus.

“I’m really proud of how we defended,” he said.

With a strong start to district play, Marble Falls will aim to continue their impressive form as the season progresses.
