A 24-year-old Texas City man, Edward Dowdy, was arrested early Wednesday morning after leading police on a high-speed chase across several cities in Galveston County. The pursuit, which began in Texas City and ended in Santa Fe, involved multiple law enforcement agencies and ended with officers using a taser to apprehend the suspect.
Chase Begins with Suspicious Activity
The incident started around 4:50 a.m. on February 14, 2025, when Texas City Police Department (TCPD) officers spotted a yellow Chevy Camaro traveling northbound on SH 146 without its headlights on. When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver sped away. TCPD lost sight of the Camaro as it turned westbound onto FM 517.
Multiple Agencies Join the Pursuit
Shortly after, Dickinson Police officers located the Camaro near FM 646 and SH 3 but also lost contact. The chase intensified when League City Police Officer Thomas spotted the vehicle still driving without headlights, heading northbound on SH 3 toward League City Parkway.
Officers pursued the car onto Interstate 45, racing through Dickinson and back into Texas City. The chase continued into Santa Fe, where it finally came to an end.
Chase Ends at Santa Fe Church
The Camaro came to a stop at Arcadia First Baptist Church in the 14000 block of SH 6. Dowdy jumped out of the car and tried to escape on foot. However, officers quickly deployed a taser to subdue him. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) checked Dowdy at the scene, and he was then transported to the League City Jail.
Charges and Bond Details
Edward Dowdy faces multiple charges following the chase:
- Evading Arrest with a Vehicle – Bond set at $50,000
- Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon – Bond set at $2,500
Authorities have not released further information about the weapon found or the circumstances surrounding it.
