The Marble Falls High School boys soccer team secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Little River Academy on January 31. This win marked their final match before entering District 26-4A competition. Despite a slow start, the Mustangs finished strong, netting three goals in the last 15 minutes of the game.
A Strong Performance from Marble Falls
With a season record of 7-4-1, Marble Falls led 1-0 at halftime. However, their offensive pressure intensified in the second half, leading to three more goals. Estaban Dominguez was the star of the match, scoring a hat-trick with three goals, while Daniel Dominguez added the fourth goal to seal the victory.
Head Coach Ryan Craven’s Insights
Head coach Ryan Craven praised his team’s performance, noting their dominance in possession and attacking play.
“We possessed the ball the whole game,” Craven said. “We probably had 30 shots on goal. It was 1-0 most of the game.”
At halftime, Craven advised his players to be more precise with their shots, which contributed to the late scoring surge. He also acknowledged Little River Academy’s strong defensive effort in keeping the match competitive.
“They played one of their better games,” Craven said. “We had guys step up. Credit them. We have to finish better.”
Overcoming Challenges with Junior Varsity Players
The Mustangs faced roster challenges as 12 players were unavailable due to illness and other issues. To compensate, Craven brought in junior varsity players to ensure the team had enough depth. Despite this setback, the Mustangs still delivered an impressive performance.
Looking Ahead: District Play Begins Against Wimberley
Marble Falls will kick off their District 26-4A campaign against Wimberley on Friday, February 7. The schedule for the day includes:
- Junior Varsity B vs. Austin LBJ – 4:30 p.m.
- Junior Varsity A vs. Wimberley – 5:30 p.m.
- Varsity vs. Wimberley – 7:15 p.m.
Wimberley has a strong soccer program and has historically played against tough opponents. Marble Falls previously defeated Wimberley 7-1 in the first round of the 2024 and 2023 playoffs, but Coach Craven knows they must prepare well.
“They’re a good program,” Craven said. “Historically, they play tough teams. They’re well coached, and we have to get ready. We hope to get guys back.”
Marble Falls’ 4-0 victory over Little River Academy was a confidence boost ahead of district play. Despite missing key players, they dominated possession and created numerous scoring opportunities. With their sights now set on Wimberley, the Mustangs aim to continue their winning momentum. The return of missing players will be crucial as they embark on their District 26-4A journey, facing tougher opponents in the coming weeks.
