Athletic Facilities a Major Priority in School Bond Proposal

The Marble Falls Independent School District (MFISD) Board of Trustees has approved a $172.2 million bond proposal, which will be put before voters on May 3, 2025. This bond is divided into four main areas:

  1. General Facilities Planning
  2. Staff One-to-One Devices
  3. Athletics
  4. Indoor Multipurpose Facility

MFISD Superintendent Jeff Gasaway emphasized that these upgrades will benefit all students involved in extracurricular activities while keeping the current tax rate unchanged at 21.53 cents per $100 valuation.

Major Athletic and Facility Upgrades Planned

Indoor Multipurpose Facility ($26.05 Million)

A significant portion of the bond is allocated to the high school’s new multipurpose facility, which will cost $16.5 million and feature:

  • A 37,900-square-foot field (60 yards long) with an end zone
  • Three track lanes
  • Restrooms and storage
  • A $4.25 million weight room
  • A $5.3 million auxiliary gym

The facility will be built on the existing baseball field, requiring the construction of a new baseball stadium.

Gasaway highlighted that the multipurpose facility will serve a wide range of student activities, including football, soccer, band, cheer, and ROTC. It will also include batting cages, a pitcher’s mound, bases, nets, and field lines for multiple sports.

New Baseball Stadium ($6.53 Million)

Since the multipurpose facility will replace the current baseball field, a new stadium will be built on the north side of Mustang Stadium. This stadium will feature:

  • Artificial turf
  • A locker room, bleachers, and press box
  • Dugouts and batting cages
  • Office and concession stands
  • A 42,000-square-foot water retention pond

Auxiliary Gym, Band Hall, and Cheer Relocations

Gasaway announced additional facility changes, including:

  • New auxiliary gym in the multipurpose facility
  • Band hall relocation to the current auxiliary gym ($8.3 million)
  • Cheer and Starlettes dance team moving to the existing band hall ($2.5 million)

This reorganization provides more space and improved facilities for all involved programs.

Other Athletic Upgrades in the Bond

The athletics portion of the bond, totaling $12.515 million, includes:

  • New varsity locker rooms at Max Copeland Gym ($3 million)
  • Artificial turf for Scearce Softball Field ($1.185 million)
  • New artificial turf for Mustang Stadium ($1 million)
  • Upgraded digital scoreboard for Mustang Stadium ($800,000)

Gasaway explained that artificial turf will save maintenance costs and water, allowing teams to continue playing even after heavy rain.

Community Involvement and Next Steps

The Marble Falls ISD Community Advisory Committee, which met six times, helped develop the bond proposal. The school district will host community events to inform residents and answer questions about the bond.

Superintendent Gasaway reassured residents that property taxes will not increase, regardless of whether the bond is approved or not.

Voters will decide on the bond on May 3, 2025. If approved, these projects will significantly enhance the district’s facilities, benefiting students for years to come.
