Varsity Girls Soccer wins 5-0 over Stony Point

In an intense and fast-paced match, the varsity women’s soccer team delivered an outstanding performance, defeating the Stony Point Tigers 5-0 on Tuesday, February 4. The Warriors took control early in the game and maintained dominance throughout, showcasing excellent teamwork, quick passes, and high-pressure play.

Early Goals Set the Tone for the Warriors

The Warriors wasted no time, asserting their control within the first ten minutes of the game. Mia Wiele ‘26 opened the scoring with a perfectly placed freekick goal, setting the momentum for the rest of the match.

“I think the game went really, really well,” said Bella Keene ‘25. “Everyone fought hard for each other, everyone was really encouraging, and I think that is what pushed us through.”

Shortly after Wiele’s opening goal, the Warriors capitalized on a corner kick opportunity. Wiele sent the ball into the box, where Audrey Savoie ‘26 quickly rebounded it into the net, doubling the lead. Throughout the game, the team used corner kicks as a strategic way to create scoring opportunities.

“In the center, I can see the whole field, and so I was able to view the outsides, view the back, and be able to make those one-two passes to move up the field with their high press,” said Natalie Safarik ‘25.

Consistent Attacks Lead to a 3-0 Halftime Lead

With nine minutes remaining in the first half, the Warriors continued to push forward. Driving up the sideline, they delivered a well-placed pass into the box, setting up Prithika Chandrasekar ‘25, who tapped the ball into the goal for the third point of the night. By halftime, the Warriors had full control, efficiently moving the ball and creating space.

Second Half Seals the Victory

The Warriors continued their dominance in the second half, maintaining their high-energy attack. At the 22-minute mark, Payton Vopat ‘26 fired a powerful shot from 20 yards out, scoring the fourth goal of the game.

“I think that we did a really good transition from the first half to the second half – we were able to finish all the shots that we were trying to take,” said Safarik. “We were able to get the ball in the goal, communicate, and what we were really focusing on at halftime was our one-two passes, and I feel like we did a good job with that.”

Just five minutes later, Lanier Harvey ‘25 found an opening in Stony Point’s defense, making a decisive run down the right side of the field. She took advantage of the space and delivered the final goal of the game, sealing the 5-0 victory for the Warriors.

Warriors Aim to Continue Their Winning Streak

With only two ties this district season, the Warriors are on track for a strong playoff run.

“This season has gone by really, really [well],” said Keene. “We’ve only tied two games this district season, and we’re looking to win the rest of them to make it really far in playoffs.”

The varsity women’s soccer team will return to action on Tuesday, February 11, at 7:15 p.m., as they face Vista Ridge Rangers in their next home game.
