Driver Arrested in the Weekend DUI Rollover Accident South of Marion

A serious accident occurred early Sunday morning in Marion, where a vehicle lost control and rolled multiple times before stopping near a home. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that alcohol was a factor in the crash. The driver, identified as Homer Borrego, now faces multiple charges, including DUI. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.

Driver Faces DUI and Other Charges

The incident took place in the 5500 block of South Market Road. According to authorities, Borrego was cited for Driving Under the Influence (DUI), Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident. Following the crash, he was taken into custody and lodged at the Williamson County Jail.

How the Accident Happened

Borrego and his two passengers veered off the roadway, hitting an embankment. The impact caused the vehicle to go airborne before rolling several times. It finally came to a stop near the front door of a nearby home. Fortunately, emergency responders from the Lake of Egypt Fire Department arrived at the scene, but all three individuals declined medical treatment.

Alcohol Evidence at the Scene

Authorities noted a strong smell of alcohol coming from both the vehicle and Borrego. Witnesses reported that before deputies arrived, the occupants of the vehicle were seen tossing beer bottles out of the truck. Investigators later found multiple beer bottles inside the vehicle and scattered around the crash site.

This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of drunk driving. Driving under the influence not only puts the driver at risk but also endangers passengers and innocent bystanders. Law enforcement continues to crack down on DUI offenses to prevent such accidents. Fortunately, no lives were lost in this case, but the consequences could have been far worse.
