About Sunrise Beach

SUNRISE BEACH VILLAGE, TEXAS.

Sunrise Beach was one of the first lakefront developments on Lake Lyndon B. Johnson. Located between Marble Falls and Llano in Llano County on Ranch Road 2233. It was established in 1958 by developer David Miller of San Antonio as a resort and retirement center and given the name Sunrise Beach. In 1966 the community had recreational facilities, motels, restaurants, and businesses concerned with building trades. By 1970 the estimated population had risen to 800. It was incorporated in 1973 as a Class C City named Sunrise Beach Village, and converted to a Class A City in 2008. After peaking at 1,025 in the mid-1970s, the population fell to 420 by 1980. The population was 704 in 2000 and is estimated today at 840.

WELCOME TO SUNRISE BEACH VILLAGE

If you recently joined property owners in our community this letter and the enclosed documents may help you learn more about life in and around Sunrise Beach Village.

The City of Sunrise Beach Village is one of three incorporated cities in Llano County (Llano, the County seat, and Horseshoe Bay are the others).  The key to the success of our community is the incredible amount of volunteer work contributed by our citizens on a daily basis.  The efforts of these volunteer citizens, which is evident every where you turn, have allowed us to keep our property taxes at a minimum.  As you will see in the enclosed brochure, there are many opportunities for you to become involved in your community.  I hope that you will join us.  Whether you live here full time or just come up on the weekends, why don’t you plan to attend the Potluck Supper on the first Friday of next month?  Cook up your favorite recipe and come meet your new neighbors!

Please complete and return to City Hall the attached form to register for 911 service identification.  For any type of emergency call 911.

City Hall is open weekdays (except holidays) from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM.  If there is any way that we can help you, just stop by or give us a call.  Please feel free to participate and enjoy the Sunrise Beach Village Community!  If you would like to meet a new neighbor, come by City Hall for a local directory and other helpful information.

Sincerely, Pat Frain, Mayor

     ABOUT OUR CITY

The City of Sunrise Beach Village is essentially a retirement and recreational residential community.  The land lying within its corporate limits is an elongated parcel running generally North and South with extensive property fronting on Lake Lyndon B. Johnson.  According to the 2000 census there are 826 residences, 704 full-time residents.  Our City has the Mayor/Commissioner form of government consisting of the Mayor and two Commissioners who serve two-year terms.  The Mayor serves as the City Administrator.

Located in Llano County, Sunrise Beach Village is about 60 miles Northwest of Austin and is situated in the scenic recreational area of the Highland Lakes.

Isolated at the end of FM 2233, Sunrise Beach Village enjoys the advantage of an excellent highway access road without the traffic associated with most major and minor routes in the area.  The location, coupled with only one access road, provides a measure of security and privacy that is lacking in many retirement and recreational communities.

The climatic conditions in the area are of great economic advantage both for local outdoor activity and for enjoyment of the beautiful Texas Hill Country by both residents and visitors.  Area activities include boating, fishing, hunting, camping, golf and just plain relaxing in one of the most beautiful parts of the State.

POLICE DEPARTMENT:  The Sunrise Beach Police department has 3 full-time officers and provides police coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The Chief of Police resides within the community. Both are able to respond on short notice to any situation.  Our police officers also patrol area waters in the Police Boat and enforce water safety laws.

FIRE DEPARTMENT: Fire protection is provided by the highly rated Sunrise Beach Volunteer Fire Department.  The Department has an average membership of more than 40 volunteers and has 8 fire trucks and a fireboat.  They utilize lake water pumped from 16 dry hydrants located throughout the community and water pumped by the fireboat.  You are invited to attend a training meeting and become a volunteer fire fighter.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES: Ambulance services are provided by Llano County EMS with units based in Kingsland and Llano.  Patients are generally delivered to the Llano Memorial Hospital.  First responders are provided by the Sunrise Beach Volunteer Fire Department.  The City and Fire Department also have a total of four automatic defibrillators.  One is carried in each police car.  The other two are carried by trained volunteers, one on each end of the City.
